Calorimeter

A bomb calorimeter is an apparatus for measuring the heat generated by a chemical reaction. A sample to be analyzed is placed into an explosion proof vessel that is surrounded by a water jacket. Oxygen is pumped into the vessel and subsequently ignited. The caloric content of the sample is determined by measuring the temperature of the water before and after the burn.
